Initially known as the Aryan Tournament,
DAV Sports was first organized in 1926
before the partition of India. However, due to insurmountable
difficulties, it had to be discontinued. The tournament was
revived in 1960. The first revived edition
saw participation of all affiliated boys’ schools of five
zones i.e. Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Ambala, Bhatinda, and Delhi
at that time.
In 1982-83, an East India zone was created
to accommodate public schools from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar
Pradesh, and Bihar. All DAV schools were grouped into six
zones, and inter-zonal competitions were held at DAV Higher
Secondary School, Chandigarh.
By 1988, the tournament adopted amended
rules and regulations, introducing three streams for
competition i.e. Conventional government-aided and recognized
schools, Public and Model schools and Girls' category
(for both aided and public schools). For public/model schools
and girls’ competitions, the tournament was held at both
senior and junior levels.
Since 1982-83, DAV Sports has been held
annually, with the only exception being
2019-20 during the COVID-19 pandemic,
providing students with a wide range of opportunities to
broaden their competencies, where students can pursue their
passion for sports while nurturing and honing their talents,
skills, and abilities.
