TO MAXIMIZE THE POTENTIAL OF THE PLAYERS SO AS TO REPRESENT DAV ON NUMEROUS NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL FORUMS
DAV Sports, a premier flagship initiative of the DAV college managing committee New Delhi, is dedicated to empowering DAVians by nurturing & maximizing their athletic potential trough a diverse range of inter-school sports competitions & events for students of all age groups, it strives to equip players with the skills & confidence to represent DAV on national and international platforms.
Initially known as the Aryan Tournament, DAV Sports was first organized in 1926 before the partition of India. However, due to insurmountable difficulties, it had to be discontinued. The tournament was revived in 1960. The first revived edition saw participation of all affiliated boys’ schools of five zones i.e. Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Ambala, Bhatinda, and Delhi at that time.
In 1982-83, an East India zone was created to accommodate public schools from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. all DAV schools were grouped into six zones, and inter-zonal competitions were held at DAV Higher Secondary School, Chandigarh. By 1988, the tournament adopted amended rules and regulations, introducing three streams for competition i.e Conventional government-aided and recognized schools, Public and model schools and Girls' category (for both aided and public schools). For public/model schools and girls’ competitions, the tournament was held at both senior and junior levels.
Since 1982-83, DAV Sports has been held annually (the only exception being 2019) to adduce a range of opportunities for the broadening of competency and grasp.
We try to create a welcoming environment where students can nurture their passion for sports and hone their talents, skills, and abilities. Approximately 30 sporting events (combat, timing, and team games) are covered under the DAV Sports spectrum for boys and girls under 14, 17 and 19 categories of public / model/ aided schools, divided into 18 zones/states.
The 41st DAV National Sports, a national-level event, which brought together approximately 20,000 athletes, coaches, and escorts from DAV institutions across 22 states, was conducted, parallelly at many national /international level(s)stadiums in the Delhi NCR region from 2nd to 4th Dec 2024.
Now under the dynamic leadership of Dr Punam Suri, president DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, team of DAV Sports manages inter-school games, Cluster-level games, state-level games, and National-level games apart from two other important events i.e. Run for DAV and International Yoga Day.
